Allison was appointed a director of Deneys Reitz in 2001. From 2008 until 2014, Allison worked as a director and equity partner, and head of intellectual property (“IP”), at various law firms in Johannesburg, returning to Durban in 2014 as a director and equity partner of Norton Rose Fulbright.

Allison resigned at the end of 2016 to work as an independent legal consultant, although she still consults to Norton Rose Fulbright on a regular basis.

Allison specialises in all aspects of IP law, predominantly trademark and copyright work. She also specialises in all commercial aspects of IP, including M & A deals with related IP aspects or issues, IP structuring, assignments, licensing and due diligences. Allison was a recommended IP practitioner in the Legal 500 for the years 2015, 2016 and 2017.

In addition to advising on all aspects of IP law, Allison also specialises in consumer protection law, data protection law and black economic empowerment law. Allison was part of the team at Deneys Reitz that assisted with the drafting of the initial BEE codes of good practice at the end of 2006, and she has been practising in this area of law ever since.

Allison has been a regular speaker over the years at various IP and BEE conferences. She is a Fellow of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law (SAIIPL) and a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA).
